Canora to Dauphin

The Margo sub. from Humboldt, coming from the west, and the Assiniboine sub. from Mutchler, coming from the north, join at Margo Junction, just west of Canora (MP 124.9), Saskatchewan, where there is a passenger station, with depot on the west side and silos on the east side, and the Yorktown sub. to Melville heads away south. The single track, OCS, Togo sub. with speed limit 40 mph for passenger trains and 30 mph for freights, heads just south of due east, in Yard Limits, crossing Route 5, which then parallels the line on the south side, past Rink (MP 120.6), where Yard Limits end, the 1,800 ft. siding at Mikado (MP 117.5), Veregin (MP 109.3), and a detector at MP 105.8.

There is a grade crossing, a through truss bridge over the Assiniboine River, the 6,590 ft. south side siding at Kamsack (MP 100.9), where there is a passenger station (no visible depot), with three sets of spurs to silos to the north, a dirt track grade crossing, spurs on the north side, an angled grade crossing, MP 99, MP 98, a dirt track grade crossing, the line on a ledge above a broad valley to the north, the 2,380 ft. south side siding at Runnymede (MP 86.0), with a dirt road grade crossing within the siding, a road bridge overhead, and MP 85 in wooded hills, before turning south-southeast, past an embankment in the forest, MP 83, a dirt track grade crossing, a grade crossing in town, the 6,460 ft. west side siding at Togo (MP 79.5), with MP 80 and a dirt road grade crossing within the siding, and a dirt road grade crossing.

The line crosses the Provincial Boundary from Saskatchewan into Manitoba, in flat country, past MP 77, a detector at MP 76.9, MP 76, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 75, silos on a spur to the west, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 70, a hillside to the east, MP 69, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 68, a road alongside to the east, two dirt road grade crossings, the 6,200 ft. east side siding at Roblin (MP 63.6), where there is a passenger station (no visible depot), with MP 64, and two spurs to the east, within the siding, spurs to the east and the west south of the siding, extra track to the east, a grade crossing, MP 61, a dirt track grade crossing, an embankment, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 55, and the 2,870 ft. west side siding at Shevlin (MP 54.7).

The line turns east, past a dirt road grade crossing and a bridge over a river, and then east-northeast, past the 3-mile Bield Pit Spur (MP 51.6), a road bridge overhead (Route 5), a dirt road grade crossing, and Bield (MP 50.7),  where there is extra track to the north, and turns east again, in hilly country with conifer forests, past MP 49, two dirt track grade crossings, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 46, a dirt track grade crossing, MP 44, a bridge over a stream, a dirt road grade crossing, the 6,360 ft. north side siding at McHarry (MP 37.0), with a dirt road grade crossing within the siding, a dirt road grade crossing, an angled dirt road grade crossing, four dirt road grade crossings, MP 31, a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, an embankment, two grade crossings, three dirt road grade crossings, and Route 5 alongside to the south.

There is extra track and silos on the north side at Grand View (MP 28.5), two dirt road grade crossings, a grade crossing, an embankment, a pond to the south, two grade crossings, the 3,210 ft. south side siding at Gilbert Plains (MP 20.0), Route 5 alongside to the south, a street alongside to the north, a dirt track grade crossing, a detector at MP 18.0, a road alongside to the south, a dirt road grade crossing, an angled dirt road grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, two dirt road grade crossings, two dirt track grade crossings, Ashville (MP 11.4), where there is a grade crossing with Route 10, two dirt road grade crossings, MP 9, a bridge over a river, MP 8, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 6, the beginning of Yard Limits at Hunter (MP 4.0), two dirt road grade crossings, MP 3, the junction with the Cowan sub. coming from the north at North Junction (MP 2.6), where the line turns east-southeast, two dirt road grade crossings, extra track to the south, a spur on the north side, two grade crossings, spurs on the south side, a "siding" on the south side, a bridge over a river, a stuffed-and-mounted CN caboose on the north side, and Dauphin (MP 0.0), end-on junction with the Gladstone sub., where there is a passenger station with a two-storey brick depot on the north side.

The only regular freight trains on this line area, G85241 (Canora to Winnipeg) and G85341 (Winnipeg to Canora), reduced in frequency from daily to tri-weekly in mid-November, 2009.
