Albany-Rensselaer to Poughkeepsie

This line, now owned by CSX, has been leased to Amtrak as of December 1, 2012. There are two passenger tracks and a main track (on the west side) at the east side and island high-level platforms of the station at Albany-Rensselaer (MP142.1), where there is a road bridge above the platforms and the two-storey depot is on the east side of the line, with a footbridge overhead. Both the current depot and the high-level platforms are new since 2000. (The old depot still stands, just north of the north end of the high level platforms and the road bridge overhead.) Heading south, the two passenger tracks reduce to one, and the line passes crossovers at CP 142 (MP 142.0), where the Post Road branch connection to the Boston Line departs to the southeast, the line becomes double track, and the speed limit rises from 15 mph to 75-30. There is extra track on the west side, three road bridges overhead, a track trails in from the northwest, extra track on the west side, CP 141 (MP 141.2), where the speed limit rises to 110-50 down the justly famous high-speed line along the east shore of the Hudson River, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 138.x, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 136.x, a through girder bridge over a stream, a bridge over a stream, two grade crossings, Castleton, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 133.x, a bridge over a stream, a road bridge overhead, beneath the bridge carrying the Boston line across the river, a through girder bridge over a stream, Intermediate Signals at MP 131.x, a highway bridge overhead (and across the river), Intermediate Signals at MP 130.x, and then further south (MP 128.x) beneath the line carrying the freight connection south from the Boston Line, past crossovers at CP 125 (Stuyvesant, MP 125.6), where that freight connection trails in from the west side. MP 124.3, where speed limits drop to 85-50, a southbound cantilever signal bridge, MP 124, a grade crossing, crossovers at CP 124 (MP 123.7), a northbound signal bridge, a dirt road grade crossings, detectors at MP 121.5 ("Stuyvesant"), where speed limits become 90-50, Intermediate Signals at MP 121.x, MP 119.6, where speed limits fall to 75-50 until MP 119.4, resuming 90-50 thereafter, Intermediate Signals at MP 118.x, a through girder bridge over an inlet, Intermediate Signals at MP 116.x, a slide detector fence to the east, a bridge over an inlet, CP 115 (MP 115.4), MP 114.8, where speed limits fall to 50-30, a road bridge overhead, a wye on the east side, the passenger station with east-side platform and peaked-roof shed at Hudson (MP 114.5), a plant with a covered bulk-storage pile on the west side, and crossovers at CP 114 (MP 114.1), where speeds of 90-50 resume.

The line continues past a bridge over an inlet, Intermediate Signals at MP 112.x, two grade crossings, a road bridge overhead (and across the river), Intermediate Signals at MP 110.x, Germantown, two sets of Intermediate Signals (MP 108.x and MP 106.x), a through girder bridge over an inlet, a grade crossing, crossovers at CP 103 (MP 103.8), with the Catskill Mountains across the river to the west, Intermediate Signals at MP 101.x, Intermediate Signals at Tivoli, MP 99.4, where speed limits fall to 85-50 until detectors at MP 99.0 ("Conrail, Tivoli, NY"), where they resume 90-50, a grade crossing, Barrytown, a through girder bridge over a stream, Intermediate Signals at MP 96.x, a road bridge overhead, crossovers at CP 94 (MP 94.2), a road bridge overhead, MP 93.1, where speed limits fall to 80-50 until MP 92.6, where 90-50 resumes, Intermediate Signals at MP 92.x, a short tunnel, an old depot on the east side, crossovers at CP 89 (MP 89.8), Rhinecliff (MP 89.2, island and east side platforms, footbridge overhead), where a New Haven line once trailed in from the east, two road bridges overhead, Intermediate Signals at MP 87.x, a bridge over an inlet, Intermediate Signals at MP 86.x, an old wooden depot on the east side at Staatsburg, a detector at "Staatsburg", a road bridge overhead, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 83.x, two road bridges overhead, Intermediate Signals at MP 81.x, Intermediate Signals at MP 79.x, an old brick depot on the east side at Hyde Park, below FDR's Hyde Park estate, Intermediate Signals at MP 77.x, a grade crossing, an old wooden depot on the east side, crossovers at CP 75 (MP 75.5), where a 13,700 ft. siding on the east side of the line starts, another New Haven line once trailed in from the east and Metro-North ownership starts, extra track on the west side, under the Poughkeepsie railroad bridge (unused since it burned in 1974), MP 74.1, where speed limits fall to 70-50, a road bridge overhead, and Poughkeepsie station (MP 73.6, two high-level side platforms, footbridge), where Metro-North diesel-powered commuter services start.
