Klamath Falls to Chemult

Klamath Falls is at an altitude of 4,105 ft. The ten-track ex-SP Klamath Falls freight yard (MP 428.7, el. 4,094 ft.) is on the east side of the line, immediately north of Bieber Line Junction. The Klamath Falls depot (MP 429.9, el. 4,105 ft.) is on the west side of the line, north of the UP freight yard, with the UP crew office just to its south. The speed limit through this area is 25 mph. North of the yard and depot area, a road passes underneath the railroad, the line turns northwest at the end of Yard Limits Absolute Block and the start of single-track CTC, there is a grade crossing, US 97 runs alongside to the east, two road bridges pass overhead, a road passes underneath, and there is a large lumber mill on the west side of the line. At Chelsea (MP 431.9, el. 4,200 ft.), there is a road bridge overhead, there are hills between the line and the lake to the west, then marshland between the line and the lake, and the line comes along the east shore of the large (in area) but shallow Upper Klamath Lake and turns due north, following the curves of the lake shore when required. There is a 6,241 ft. siding at Wocus (MP 433.5-434.8, el. 4,165 ft.), a 6,152 ft. siding at Algoma (MP 438.0-439.3, el. 4,153 ft.), with a slide fence above the line to the east side, but below US 97, also on the east side, and a detector at MP 442.6, where the line turns north-northwest following the shore of the lake, followed by a slide fence on the east side (starting at the detector) and a grade crossing. At Modoc Point, where there is a 6,156 ft. siding (MP 446.9-448.1, el. 4,153 ft.), the line turns north, away from the lake.

There is a grade crossing, a spur trails in on the east side at Lobert (el. 4,176 ft.), a road bridge overhead near MP 452, and US 97 has moved away from the east side, a grade crossing, US 97 is back alongside to the east, and another grade crossing. There is a 6,218 ft. east side siding at Chiloquin (MP 456.8-458.0, el. 4,188 ft.), with bracket signals at the south end and a grade crossing right at the north end, and a detector at Pine Ridge (MP 458.7, el. 4,200 ft.). The line curves back and forth for a few miles as it makes the transition from lakeshore and valley to running along the boundary between the mountains to the west and the desert to the east, with Intermediate Signals at MP 462.x and MP 463.x. There is a 7,161 ft, east side siding at Calimus (MP 464.9-466.4, el. 4,495 ft.)), with a grade crossing within the siding, and bracket signals at the north end. The river is in a gorge on the west side, below the line. A grade crossing crosses a dirt road. From here, the line runs due north all the way to Chemult, passing Kirk (MP 470.3, el. 4,531 ft.), a detector at MP 472.0, and a 6,189 ft. east side siding at Fuego (MP 473.6-474.9, el. 4,523 ft.), with a bracket signal at the north end.  There are Intermediate Signals at MP 477.x, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 479.x, another grade crossing with a gate on the east side, Intermediate Signals at MP 481.x, and another grade crossing. The land to the east of the line is now flat grassland.

There is a 6,162 ft. east side siding at Lenz (MP 482.9-484.2, el. 4,555 ft.), with a signal bridge crossing the entire line, Intermediate Signals at MP 485.6, a grade crossing and detector at Mazama (MP 487.1, el. 4,600 ft.), Intermediate Signals at MP 487.x, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 489.x, a 6,150 ft. east side siding at Yamsay (MP 491.8-493.0, el. 4,650 ft.), with a signal bridge across the track at both the south and north ends, within the siding, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 494.4, Intermediate Signals at MP 496.x, a 6,160 ft, east side siding at Diamond Lake (MP 497.2-498.5, el. 4,664 ft.), with extra track and an old depot building on the east side and a signal bridge across the track near the north end, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 500.x, a detector at MP 501.0, Intermediate Signals at MP 501.2, and a dirt road grade crossing, At Chemult, where there is a dirt road grade crossing,  and a 9,266 ft. siding from MP 502.2 to MP 504.1, the BNSF (ex-BN, ex-GN) line to Bend, OR, and the Columbia River heads off, from the easterly track, to the northeast and then north, there is a passenger platform on the west side of the line at MP 502.8, el. 4,759 ft., north of the BNSF switch, and the ex-SP line turns north-northwest and then northwest to cross the Cascades.
