Spring Street to Macon Junction

From Spring Street (MP 152.4), where a CSX connector from Circle Connection trails in on the east side, and the former Central of Georgia line splits away on the east side, the double track, CTC, line turns south-southwest, with speed limit 25 mph within the city of Atlanta, and descends along the west side of the former C of G line before turning south to pass beneath the line, and then southeast, past Wells (MP 154.2), NS Peagram Yard, and crossovers at Henderson (MP 155.4), over the CSX line between Hulsey Yard and Oakland Junction, turning south-southeast past Roseland, where a former Southern line once departed on the south side, and then southeast again to the end of double track at Constitution (MP 158.8), where single track, CTC, starts and there is extra track.

The line speed is 79 mph for passenger trains and 60 mph for freights, with lower speed limits on the curves along the line as indicated below, as the single track,  line turns south past a detector at MP 158.8, with a speed limit of 50/45 on the curves between MP 158.8  and MP 163.1, including North Conley (MP 162.5), where the line turns curvily south-southeast, Conley (MP 163.8), where there is extra track and a 9,854 ft. siding starts, and Pless (MP 164.4) where the siding ends and the spur to Lee goes off to the southwest, a speed limit of 60/55 on curves between MP 163.1 and MP 165.7, Ellenwood (MP 165.6), a detector at MP 165.7, a speed limit of 55/50 on curves between MP 165.7 and MP 171.4, including Rex, the 8,140 ft. siding at Stockbridge (MP 171.5), where there is a 2,500 ft. spur to Maher's Quarry on the east side and ABS replaces CTC, a speed limit of 50/45 on curves between MP 171.4 and MP 173.7, as the line turns south and then east-southeast past Tunis, a speed limit of 55/50 on curves between MP 173.7 and MP 177.2, as the line turns south past a detector at MP 177.0, Flippen, where the line turns southeast with a speed limit of 65/60 on curves between MP 177.2 and MP 180.6 and then south again, a speed limit of 50/45 on curves between MP 180.6 and MP 181.3, the  10.558 ft. siding at McDonough (MP 181.0), where there is also an 8,600 ft. extra track, and there is a 15 mph speed limit over street crossings, and a speed limit of 65/60 on curves between MP 181.3 and MP 183.3.

At Grove, the spur to the NS Training Center goes off to the southwest, and the main line continues south with a speed limit of 60/55 on curves between MP 183.3 and MP 188.0, edging south-southeast and then south again past a detector at MP 187.4, the 1,760 ft. siding at Locust Grove (MP 188.2), where there is also an 1100 ft. extra track and a 25 mph city speed limit, as the line turns east-southeast with a speed limit of 50/45 on the curve between MP 188.0 and MP 188.5, southeast and then east, with a speed limit of 60/55 on the curves between MP 188.5 and MP 197.4, past the 11,017 ft. siding at Jenkinsburg (MP 193.1), where there is also a short extra track and Bunch, east-southeast with a speed limit of 50/45 on curves between MP 197.4 and MP 202.4, south past a detector at MP 198.0, and Jackson, (MP 198.5), where there is a 5,940 ft. spur, east, south, with a speed limit of 55/50 on curves between MP 202.4 and MP 204.2, east, and curvily south-southeast past the 11,189 ft. siding at Flovilla (MP 203.5), where there is also a short extra track and a branch from Indian Springs once trailed in on the west side, with a speed limit of 50/45 on curves between MP 204.2 and MP 205.0, a speed limit of 60/55 on curves between MP 205.0 and 205.7, a speed limit of 45/40 on curves between MP 205.7 and MP 206.7, Sandy, a speed limit of 50/45 on curves between MP 206.7 and MP 208.7, including a turn south past Cork a speed limit of 60/55 on curves between MP 208.7 and MP 210.9, and a detector at MP 209.6.

The line turns east, with a speed limit of 50/45 on curves between MP 210.9 and MP 212.2, curvily south-southeast and then southwest, with a speed limit of 55/50 on curves between MP 212.2 and MP 214.2, southeast past Berner, with a speed limit of 40/35 on curves between MP 214.2 and MP 214.7, southwest with a speed limit of 55/50 on curves between MP 214.7 and MP 216.7, curvily southeast and then south past the 10,367 ft. siding at Juliette (MP 216.9), where there is also a 2,200 ft. spur, with a speed limit of 50/45 on curves between MP 216.7 and MP 218.9, and a detector at MP 217.0, southeast and then south past Scherer (MP 218.8), where there is extra track, a spur to Georgia Power’s huge Plant Scherer, destination of many unit coal trains, to the west, and a short stretch of CTC starts, and turns east with a speed limit of 45/40 on curves between MP 218.9 and MP 219.5, and curvily southeast with a speed limit of 50/45 on curves between MP 219.5 and MP 224.0 and a speed limit of 45/40 on curves between MP 224.0 and MP 227.4 to the 6,380 ft. siding at Dames Ferry (MP 224.6), where there is also a short extra track, and a detector at MP 224.9.

The line now heads curvily south, with a speed limit of 55/50 on curves between MP 227.4 and MP 230.0, past Palmer (MP 226.8, where CTC ends and ABS starts, and Dames, and a speed limit of 45/40 on curves between MP 230.0 and MP 233.0, past the 11,221 ft. siding at Arkwright (MP 231.9), where there is also a 4,532 ft. extra track, a speed limit of 50/45 on curves between MP 233.0 and MP 235.9, past a detector at MP 233.7 and turns curvily south-southeast, a speed limit of 55/50 on curves between MP 235.9 and MP 238.8, past Holton, to the start of double track, CTC at  North Macon (MP 239.1), a 15 mph speed limit within the town of Macon, where in any case the track speed is 20 mph, and Macon Junction (MP 240.5), where a former C of G line goes east, as well as the line going to Edgewood on the former C of G to the southwest, which passes the former site of Terminal Station.
