Newark to Dennison, 1997

The Ohio Central is a single track main line, dark (i.e. has no signals) with DTC blocks and remotely-controlled switches that announce their position on the radio, with maximum speed 35 mph on this line segment. From the erstwhile island platform, where there are four parallel tracks, at Newark (MP 157.6), where former B&O lines head north (with a single-track west leg of a wye at the east end of the station location), east (with a single track east leg of that wye, and a flat crossing with the north line that crosses the former PRR) and south (a single track at the west end of the former station), and the former B&O and PRR shared trackage west to Columbus (now shared by CSX and CUOH), the Ohio Central heads east-northeast in the Marne Block, past four bridges over streets, across that flat crossing and then across the river, past a grade crossing (E-W), a highway bridging overhead, a grade crossing (a main N-S street),  First Street (MP 157.5), with a bike path to the north and divided highway (US 22) to the south, a grade crossing to an industry on the north side, four grade crossings, Licking (MP 155.1), a bridge over a stream, MP 154, two grade crossings, MP 153, a grade crossing, the bike path still to the north and the highway still to the south, two more grade crossings, curves, Hanover (MP 149.6), extra track to the north, a grade crossing, Black Run (MP 144.8), a grade crossing at MP 143, Bricker (MP 142.8), the boundary between the Marne Block to the west and the Oil Block to the east, two grade crossings, extra track on the north side, a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing, a street alongside to the north, three grade crossings in town,  Frazeyburg (MP 141.7), a dirt track grade crossing, a grade crossing, a bridge over a river, a grade crossing, through green fields separated by lines of trees, a road bridge overhead, a grade crossing, three road bridges overhead, a spur trailing in on the south side, a grade crossing, a grassy area where there was once a yard on the south side, Trinway (MP 136.0), where branches once trailed in from both north and south, the Oil Block ends and the Trin Block starts, there is extra track on the northwest side, and a former Wheeling & Lake Erie line now owned by Ohio Central (OHCR) comes alongside to the south (with a connection into the former PRR, the former W&LE being used for car storage in July 2006).

Between Trinway and Dennison, the line is a 'water-level route" in the Tuscarawas River valley, past MP 135.5, a dirt track grade crossing, a grade crossing, a street alongside to the northwest, a grade crossing, a grade crossing, a through truss bridge over the Muskingum River, a dirt track grade crossing, a detector at MP 132.7, Adams Mill (MP 132.2), where the Trin Block ends and the Steel Block starts, a grade crossing, a road alongside to the northwest, MP 130.2, a grade crossing, the Conesville Generating Plant across the former W&LE to the southeast, Conesville (MP 129.0), a grade crossing west of the siding, a road bridge overhead, Tyndall (MP 127.0), a spur heads away to the northeast, a siding on the north side, a grade crossing within the siding, a road alongside to the south, curves between MP 126 and 125, MP 125.6, where a connector over to the former W&LE, used as far as the Conesville Generating Plant, departs to the southeast and the line turns north-northeast, with the rest of the former W&LE again being used for car storage in July 2006, a spur on the south side, facing west, a rail-served petroleum facility on the south side, the siding on the north side ends, the Clow Water System Company pipe manufacturing plant on the west side, the Steel Block ends and the River Block starts, a petroleum plant on the north side, and Coshocton (MP 122.2), where a branch once left to the west-northwest and the main line turns east, past five or six grade crossings in town, with an old depot on the south side between two of them, with a street alongside to the north, a grade crossing at the west end of extra track, first one and then two extra tracks on the north side, with crossovers between them and the main line, forming the siding at Wellton.

The line between  the spur off to the Conesville Generating Plant and Morgan Run is used by coal trains, and is thus maintained to higher standards than the line east of Morgan Run. The line continues past the end of the River Block and the start of the Morgan Block, a grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, the two extra tracks trail in, a curve, a bridge over a river, Morgan Run (MP 118.1), where the former W&LE line crosses at grade with a connecting track in the northwest corner and the Ohio Central's shops located beyond the connector, there is a grade crossing to an entrance road alongside to the south, and the Morgan Block ends and the Town Block begins, a dirt road grade crossing, a rickety road bridge overhead, a road alongside to the north, a grade crossing, West Lafayette (MP 115.6), a dirt road grade crossing, three dirt track grade crossings, three grade crossings, two dirt track grade crossings, two grade crossings, a spur trailing in on the south side, two grade crossings, a grade crossing, a cemetery on the south side, the US 36 divided highway alongside to the north, Isleta (MP 111.5), two grade crossings, a road bridge overhead, Newcomerstown (MP 108.1), where there was once a flat crossing with a north-south PRR line at "Town", and the main line turns northeast, a spur heading southeast, the end of the Town Block and the start of the Port Block, MP 107, a spur heading southeast, US 36 alongside to the north, a grade crossing, the I-77 dual road bridges overhead, MP 106, nine dirt track grade crossings, MP 104, a grade crossing in town, four grade crossings, a dirt road grade crossing, Port Washington (MP 101.6), a turn east-northeast, Lock 17, a multi-span through truss bridge over the Tuscarawas River, MP 101, a grade crossing, MP 99, two dirt road grade crossings, a road alongside to the north, MP 98, two grade crossings, a spur trailing in on the south side, a road bridge overhead, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing, Gnadenhutten (MP 96.7), a road bridge overhead, a grade crossing, a road alongside to the north, a dirt rack grade crossing, a road bridge overhead, a turn east, a grade crossing, MP 92, Uhrichsville (MP 91.9), where a former B&O line that once crossed at grade (the flat crossing is still there) still departs to the north operated by RJ Corman, a grade crossing, a bridge a river, a road bridge overhead (SR 800), three grade crossings, MP 91, a grade crossing, a switch to a siding on the south side, a bridge over a stream, a street on the north side, a siding/extra tack on the south side, a grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, a spur with a stuffed-and-mounted locomotive and cars on the north side, and Dennison (MP 90.3), where the depot is on the north side of the line.
