From the crossovers at Beverly (MP 86.3), where an 8.6 mile spur heads northeast to Cedar Rapids, rejoining the main line at Otis, the main line continues just north of due east, Yard Limits, Two Main Tracks, CTC, Automatic Train Control, speed limit 70 mph for intermodal trains and 60 mph for other freights (except 45 mph for unit coal trains), past a former flat crossing with an erstwhile Milwaukee Road line, a bridge carrying the Cedar Rapids & Iowa City line overhead, the former location of a bridge carrying an erstwhile Rock Island line overhead, the single track (30 mph on the turnouts) Cedar River Bridge (MP 78.6), where Double Track (current-of-traffic) resumes on the east side, Otis (MP 77.8), where the Cedar Rapids spur trails back in on the north side and the line turns northeast, crossovers at MP 77.0, the end of Yard Limits at MP 76.4, and detectors at MP 76.2.
There is a 60 mph speed restriction on Track 1 and a 40 mph speed restriction on Track 2 between MP 73.6 and MP 71.4 as the line makes a sharp turn to the south-southeast, following a bend in the Cedar River (on whose north bank the line is running), a hard turn east-northeast, away from the river, past Bertram, where an erstwhile Cedar Rapids & Iowa City branch once crossed, a turn southeast, south-southeast, and then east, past Mount Vernon and Lisbon (MP 64.1), a turn east-southeast past detectors at MP 57.2 and crossovers at Mechanicsville (MP 56.9), a turn curvily east past Stanwood (MP 51.6), where a branch once headed south, and Clarence (MP 46.4), east-southeast past the future CP A043, detectors at MP 40.1, crossovers and the 7,200 ft. westward siding at Lowden (MP 39.7), and crossovers at Wheatland (MP 34.9), where an erstwhile Milwaukee Road line once crossed on the flat, and east past Calamus (MP 30.5), Dumoor, crossovers at Grand Mound (MP 25.0), and detectors at MP 24.9.
Another erstwhile Milwaukee Road line once crossed on the flat at DeWitt (MP 19.2), and the line continues east and then just south of due east past Malone, crossovers at MP 12.7, Low Moor (MP 9.6), detectors at MP 9.1, the start of Yard Limits at MP 8.0, a 60 mph speed restriction on Track 1 and a 40 mph speed restriction on Track 2 between MP 7.0 and MP 3.0, and crossovers at MP 6.5, turning east-northeast past crossovers (30 mph on the turnouts) at Camanche (MP 3.4), where CTC starts, a 30 mph speed restriction from MP 3.0 to MP 0.0, and West Clinton, where a connector from a former Rock Island line (later a joint BNSF/CP line) along the Mississippi River's west bank trails in from the south, to the yard on the southeast side of the line at Clinton (MP 2.1), where the line heads northeast.
