Staples to Coon Creek

At Staples (MP 148.0) there is a passenger station, with an old brick two-storey depot on the east side, and crossovers and the junction (MP 140.2), where the single track ex-NP Duluth line continues straight ahead while the 2MT, CTC main line turns southeast, out into the woods.

At MP 139.7, the speed limit rises to 79-50, past Intermediate Signals, a dirt road to the east, a grade crossing, a road alongside to the east, a bridge over a river, a grade crossing, a dirt road to the east, turning across a dirt road grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, Philbrook (MP134.0), where the 2MT reduce to single track, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at ~MP 130, a grade crossing, and a bridge over a stream, and at MP 128.4, the speed limit falls to 75-50. There is an 11,878 ft. west side siding at Lincoln (MP 127.8), with dual road bridges overhead and a grade crossing within the siding, a road alongside to the east, Intermediate Signals, Cushing, an embankment, a dirt track grade crossing, a detector at MP 121.8, a grade crossing, a dirt road to the east, a bridge over a stream, an 11,813 ft. west side siding at Randall (MP 116.5), with two grade crossings in town, within the siding, a cemetery to the east, a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, a small lake to the east, a grade crossing,  an 11,618 ft. siding at Darling (MP 110.8), with a dirt road to the east turning across a dirt road grade crossing, and a dirt road grade crossing within the siding, a dirt track grade crossing, a detector at MP 108.5, dual road bridges overhead, and a road alongside to the east.

The line turns south, with extra tracks on the east side, where a spur heads east to the stub of a line to Camp Ripley and an NP branch from the west once trailed in, past a grade crossing, four or five extra tracks to the east, a river (the Mississippi) alongside to the east, a grade crossing with a road that bridges the river, and  the 10,725 ft. west side siding at Little Falls (MP 106.0), and crosses the Mississippi River past a divided road (US 10) alongside to the east, a grade crossing, Gregory (MP 103.3), where the line expands to Double Track and becomes TWC, ABS and heads south-southeast, past a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing, a through girder bridge where a Soo line once bridged overhead, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, and a dirt track grade crossing.

There is extra track serving elevators to the east, Royalton, two grade crossings, a bridge over a river, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing with SR 4, Intermediate Signals, detectors at MP 90.7, a grade crossing, extra track serving elevators to the east, and crossovers at Rice (MP 88.7), turns south, with a road alongside to the east, and then a divided road (US 10), past Intermediate Signals, Watab, where it is running on the east bank of the river, south-southwest past a grade crossing as US 10 turns away, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing, a bridge over a side river, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 82.x, a grade crossing, and a road alongside to the east, to the crossovers at Sartell (MP 78.4), where there is also a 7,207 ft. siding on the east side, and southeast past two grade crossings, a road bridge overhead, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a road bridge overhead, a grade crossing, a street alongside to the east, Sauk Rapids, a grade crossing, detectors at MP 75.5, a grade crossing, extra track to the east, a grade crossing, and two spurs (or connectors) trailing in from the east, into St. Cloud (MP 73.9), where there are crossovers, a passenger station with brick depot on the west side, with extra track on the west side, a grade crossing, and an ex-GN line once crossed on the flat (St. Cloud Junction) with still extant connectors in the northwest and southwest quadrants, and two extra tracks on the east side, where DT, ABS, becomes 2MT, CTC.

The line continues southeast past a bridge over a divided road, six grade crossings, a divided highway (US 10) to the east, a dirt track grade crossing, two grade crossings, crossovers, Cable, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, Clear Lake (MP 62.7), with extra track on the east side and two grade crossings in town, where it jogs east-southeast before resuming southeast, Intermediate Signals at MP 61.8, two grade crossings, a detectors at MP 60.4, Intermediate Signals at MP 59.x, Salida, a spur south to the Xcel Energy Sherburne County Power Plant, a grade crossing, Becker (MP 57.5), where 2MT reduce to single track and there is a 9,150 ft. east side siding, with a grade crossing just south of the north end switch, and two other grade crossings within the siding, four grade crossings, a dirt track grade crossing, and Intermediate Signals at MP 49.x, a turn east past a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 48, and three grade crossings.

There is extra track on the east side at Big Lake (MP 47.0), where DT, TWC, ABS replaces the single track, CTC, a spur heading east, a grade crossing, a spur on the east side into industry, a dirt track grade crossing, a road bridge overhead, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, and Bailey, and southeast past a bridge over a side river, two grade crossings, crossovers at Elk River (MP 38.6), where the Mississippi is immediately adjacent on the southwest side, again, a bridge over a stream, four grade crossings, MP 37.3, where the speed limit rises to 79-50, a bridge over a divided road, a grade crossing with a divided road, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, Dayton, a grade crossing at detectors at MP 34.4, a golf course to the east, Intermediate Signals, two grade crossings, a street alongside to the east (Ramsey), Intermediate Signals, MP 28.2, where the speed limit falls to 75-50, a grade crossing with a divided road, crossovers at Anoka (MP 26.8), a road bridge overhead just south of the crossovers, spurs with a scrapyard on the east side, a grade crossing, a bridge over a side river, a grade crossing, a bridge over a dirt road, extra track on the east side, a road bridge overhead, a grade crossing with a plant to the east, two road bridges overhead, a street alongside to the east, four grade crossings, a bridge over a stream and a street, a bridge over a road, and Coon Creek (MP 21.1), which has crossovers as the line turns south and the ex-GN Duluth line trails in from the north with a road bridge overhead.
