Snowden to Minot/Surrey

East of the 12,267 ft. north side siding at Snowden (MP 147.2), where a Short Line to Glendive (on the former NP main line) departs to the south-southwest, the single track, CTC, 79-60 mph line continues southeast, past a dirt track grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a culvert, a dirt road grade crossing, a road bridge overhead, Intermediate Signals, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, and a dirt road grade crossing, and curves east with the Missouri River on the south side into North Dakota, past Fort Bend, where Fort Union is located on the north bank of the river, and a detector at MP 142.6, east-northeast past a grade crossing, US 2 alongside to the north, a bridge over a stream, and Marley, and northeast to the 15,021 ft. siding at Marley (MP 133.2), with a dirt road grade crossing, extra track to the north, formerly rail-served silos to the north, and a grade crossing, all within the siding.

The line turns east-northeast past a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, extra track to the north, Intermediate Signals, Koch (MP 130.7), Intermediate Signals, a bridge over a dirt track below north side bluffs, and Todd, right on the north bank of the Missouri, northeast, past a road bridge overhead, and Intermediate Signals at MP 126.x, east-northeast, past bluffs to the north and a bridge over drainage, and east, where there are signals as Two Main Tracks begin again (MP 125.0), and the speed limit drops to 60-55, past a bridge over drainage, a road alongside to the north, a dirt track grade crossing, extra track to the north, another extra track to the north, a bridge over a road, the west end of the Williston Yard on the south side, extra track for the many rail-served grain elevators on the north side of the tracks (four extra tracks to the north, and an additional one beyond them), and a pipe bridge over the tracks.

At Williston (MP 121.1), where the speed limit drops to 55-50, the six-track yard is on the south side of the tracks, with an east-facing extra track to the north, and there is a brick freight depot to the north, west of the brick depot on the north side, east of which two north side spurs trail in, there is extra track on the south side, east of the yard, there are crossovers between the two tracks east of the depot, three more north side spurs trail in, and one curves away, there is a grade crossing, and two more north side spurs trail in for the shuttle-enabled rail-served grain facilities on the north side of the tracks.

East of Williston, the speed limit rises to 60 mph at MP 119.3, there is a bridge over a stream, a dirt road grade crossing, and the line bridges over an arm of the lake occupying the Missouri River valley, and turns northeast past a spur trailing in on the north side, a road bridge overhead, extra track on the south side serving a package-making plant, a spur trailing in to the north, Avoca, Intermediate Signals at MP 118.4, a dirt track grade crossing, a stream to the north, two bridge over streams, Intermediate Signals at MP 116.1, and Spring Brook, where the speed limit rises to 79-60,  a stream to the north, detectors at MP 115.7, a bridge over a stream, a dirt track grade crossing, a stream curving back and forth to the north, Intermediate Signals, three bridges over streams, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals in a town, a dirt road grade crossing, a road alongside to the north, two dirt track grade crossings, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, and a dirt road grade crossing.

The line turns east past Epping (MP 104.5), where single track starts again (with speed limit 50 mph through the switch), a road bridge overhead, an embankment, a dirt track grade crossing, an angled dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, and a grade crossing, east-northeast past the 8,665 ft. south side siding at Wheelock (MP 99.0), with an angled dirt road grade crossing in the siding, two extra tracks angling away serving silos on the south side, just east of the siding, a dirt road grade crossing, two dirt track grade crossings, and a pond to the north, northeast past a large pond to the north, a road bridge overhead, extra track on the south side serving 52-car rail-served grain facilities at Ray, a grade crossing, a detector at MP 92.1, an angled dirt road grade crossing, and a dirt track grade crossing.

The speed limit drops to 70-60 at MP 90.1, past a dirt road grade crossing, the 12,448 ft. south side siding at Temple (MP 87.4), with two dirt road grade crossings within the siding, where the line turns east, past a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 84, a marshy pond to the north, a pond to the north, a grade crossing, MP 82, and a grade crossing, to 52-car rail-served grain facilities at Tioga (MP 81.8), where the speed limit is 50 mph in town, and there is an old depot to the north, extra track on the north side, and a road bridge overhead. East of Tioga, there is a rail-served oil facility (seems to be greatly expanded in June, 2013) on the north side of the tracks and another rail-served industry on the south side.

There is a bridge over drainage, Intermediate Signals at MP 79.8, a stream to the north, a bridge over a stream, and a dirt road grade crossing, where the speed limit drops to 65-60,  past Intermediate Signals, and a bridge over a stream, the line turns southeast at the 6,708 ft. north side siding at White Earth (MP 73.5), with west-facing extra track to north side silos within the siding, a bridge over a stream, an embankment, a bridge over a culvert, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 73, and Intermediate Signals. The speed limit rises to 70-60 at MP 72.4, past a dirt road grade crossing and Intermediate Signals, and to 79-60 at MP 69.3.

The line turns east, past a dirt track grade crossing, and then just south of east, past a detector at MP 67.5, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, Manitou, a dirt road grade crossing, and the 8,264 ft. south side siding at Ross (MP 61.5), where the njew signals have already been installed, with a dirt road grade crossing within the siding, and then east, past a marshy pond to the north, a dirt track grade crossing, US 2 alongside to the south, Intermediate Signals, a dirt track grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, and a dirt track grade crossing..

At Stanley (MP 54.3), where there is only a single main track but a number of sidings (12,662 ft. on the north side, 9,863 ft. on the south side), there is a bridge over a street, two grain elevators on the south side of the track, served by two parallel extra tracks, west of the depot. and the wooden depot is on the south side of the track, followed by a grade crossing, and MP 53. In June 2013, there are new signals turned sideways along this stretch of track.

East of Stanley, a branch line heads northeast, and then around to the west to Powers Lake, the main line edges further north, past a dirt road grade crossing, the east end of the north side siding, a marshy pond to the north, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, and Intermediate Signals, to Palmero, and then east past many hay fields, a detector at MP 46.5, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, an embankment, MP 43, a dirt track grade crossing, three ponds to the north, a dirt road grade crossing, the 9,090 ft. siding at Blaisdell (MP 39.4), with MP 38 near the east end of the siding, a dirt track grade crossing, a pond to the north, rolling low hills, Intermediate Signals, a pond off to the north, MP 35, a dirt track grade crossing, MP 34, and Togus.

The line turns east-southeast past a dirt track grade crossing, a pond to the north, a marshy pond to the north, pnds to the north and south, a grade crossing, a bridge over a dirt road, a dirt road grade crossing, two ponds to the north, dual road bridges overhead, a dirt road grade crossing, Roach Siding, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing, a pond to the north, the 9,880 ft. south side siding and shuttle-enabled rail-served grain facilities on the south side at Berthold (MP 22.7), where a secondary main line from Whitetail trails in from the northwest, with extra track to the north, a grade crossing in town, the end of the extra track, and a grade crossing, within the siding, two dirt road grade crossings, a detector at MP 20.1, a grade crossing, three dirt track grade crossings, Lone Tree, a dirt road grade crossing, a pond to the north, and Des Lacs (MP 13.9), where 2MT begin again.

The line turns east past Ralston, two dirt road grade crossings, Intermediate Signals, and a dirt road grade crossing, MP 11.2,where the speed limit drops to 60-55, and a dirt track grade crossing,  southeast past a cutting, a dirt road grade crossing, a detector at MP 8.0, a cutting, signals at West Gassman (MP 5.9), where the line reduces to single track for the long trestle crossing of the Gassman Coulee Bridge (MP 5.2), where the speed limit is 40 mph, and signals at East Gassman (MP 4.7), where the speed limit returns to 60-55 and 2MT begin again, past a dirt road alongside to the north that turns across a dirt road grade crossing, and the line turns east, past dual road bridges overhead, and then northeast, past a grade crossing and a bridge over a road.. The speed limit falls to 35 mph at MP 1.2, past a grade crossing, extra track to the north, a grade crossing, and a bridge over a street, just west of the crossing. In June 2013, there are new signals turned sideways along this stretch of track.

At Soo Tower (MP 0.5), the single track Soo Line between the Twin Cities and Regina, Saskatchewan crosses just west of the station, and turns to run parallel on the south side of the ex-GN line, and there are crossovers as the line turns east-northeast. The brick Minot (MP 0.0/203.2) depot and platform are on the south side of the tracks, with a road bridge overhead, extra track to the south, a footbridge overhead, the line turns just south of east, past extra track to the south, a road bridge overhead, east past shuttle-enabled rail-served grain facilities and the end of 2MT at MP 199.7, where the speed limit rises to 60-50, and a spur on the north side, a bridge over a road, extra track to the south, Intermediate Signals at MP "228.65" (198.95), a footbridge overhead, and the freight yard (Gavin Yard, MP 197.9)) to the north of the tracks, a grade crossing becoming a street to the south, a grade crossing, a spur serving 52-car rail-served grain facilities trailing in from the south, extra track to the south, a grade crossing, two spurs trailing in from the south, and the junction at Surrey (MP "226.0"/196.3), where the New Rockford Subdivision—the main freight line— heads east-southeast and the main passenger line continues east.
