Shelby to Snowden

The single extra track, on the north side passes north of the depot, and the line reduces to a single track (but with tracks on either side of the main track at this point), with a road bridge overhead and a street alongside to the south, west of the wooden depot at Shelby (MP 1065.4) on the north side of the track. On the east side of Shelby, there is a grade crossing, the platform track and the extra track on the north trails in, there is a dirt road grade crossing, shuttle-enabled grain elevators both south and north of the tracks, a cattle feed lot on the north side, and after the crossovers at Shelby East, the line south to Great Falls, and thence either to Helena or Laurel, which had formed the southernmost track through Shelby, departs to the south-southeast, with two extra tracks serving an elevator south of the Havre line. The single track, CTC, main line with speed limit 79-60, turns east, with the isolated mountains now more or less to the north, past a rail-served wood products yard on the south side of a road to the south, two extra tracks serving elevators to the south, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, Farrell, on flat plains with only the occasional tree, a detector at MP 1059.3, a dirt road grade crossing just west of the west end of the 9,062 ft. south side siding at Dunkirk (MP 1056.3), with a dirt track grade crossing to storage silos on the north side, extra track to an elevator on the south side, and three dirt road grade crossings within the siding.

In June 2013, there are new signals turned sideways all the way to Havre West.

There are two dirt road grade crossings, Intermediate Signals, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at Telstad, the 8,556 ft. south side siding at Devon (MP 1047.6), with extra track to three elevators on the south side and a dirt road grade crossing within the siding, and turns north-northeast, past Intermediate Signals, and then south-southeast, with a snow fence on the north side, past a dirt track grade crossing, a grade crossing, and Galata, where there are two formerly rail-served elevators and stock pens on the south side, east past Intermediate Signals, a bridge over a gulley and a dirt road grade crossing to the 8,585 ft. south side siding at Lothair (MP 1035.6), with extra track and two rail-served elevators to the south, a road alongside to the south, and a dirt road grade crossing within the siding, east-northeast, past two dirt road grade crossings, east past the detector at MP 1030.7, extra track serving three elevators on the south side at Tiber (MP 1028.4), a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, two dirt road grade crossings, Intermediate Signals, a road alongside to the south, and the 8,552 ft. north side siding at Chester (MP 1022.9), with extra track serving two elevators on the south side and a dirt road alongside to the north in the siding, a bridge over a dirt road and a dirt road grade crossing east of the siding, north, past Intermediate Signals with a road alongside to the south, and then east again past Intermediate Signals, a dirt track grade crossing, and the 9,571 ft. south side siding at Buelow (MP 1015.9), with two dirt road grade crossings within the siding, on either side of station name Buelow, and a dirt track grade crossing east of the siding, with two formerly rail-served elevators on the south side, west of Joplin.

Two Main Tracks begin again at Joplin (MP 1011.9), and the line continues east past a grade crossing, two formerly rail-served elevators on the north side, in the town of Joplin, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 1009.7, extra track serving three elevators on the south side, a dirt road grade crossing at detectors at MP 1009.3, two dirt track grade crossings, a crossover at Inverness (MP 1008.9), where there are extra tracks, Intermediate Signals at MP 1008.4 and MP 1007.4, a crossover at Inverness X-Over (MP 1006.7), extra track on the north side, trailing in, a grade crossing in town, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, extra track on the south side, an 8,579 ft. north side siding at Rudyard (MP 1002.7), with three extra tracks at the shuttle-enabled MMI silo on the north side, (which has a critter), two extra tracks on the south side serving two elevators, and a dirt road grade crossing within the siding, a crossover at Hingham West (MP 999.7), extra tracks to an elevator on the south side at Hingham (MP 996.6), a crossover at Hingham center (MP 994.2), and two dirt road grade crossings.

There are  Intermediate Signals at MP 991.8, crossovers at Gildford (MP 990.7), where there are extra tracks, a dirt road grade crossing, crossovers at Gildford Center (MP 989.x), a dirt track grade crossing, a turn more northeasterly, a dirt track grade crossing, Gildford East (MP 988.8), where 2MT give way to single track, a dirt road grade crossing, an embankment, Intermediate Signals at Xenia, a dirt track grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, a detector at MP 981.7, two dirt road grade crossings, the 8,574 ft. south side siding at Kremlin (MP 980.1), with extra track serving four elevators on the south side and a dirt road grade crossing within the siding, two dirt road grade crossings, a road alongside to the south, a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, formerly rail-served elevators on the south side, the 8,431 ft. south side siding at Burnham (MP 970.9), with a dirt road grade crossing and a paved driveway to a farm on the north side within the siding, a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a river, and a grade crossing.

At Pacific Junction (MP 964.8/434.0), where the Milk River comes curvily and repeatedly alongside to the north, a single-track BNSF line originally from Great Falls and Helena, but now only from Big Sandy on the Missouri River, trails in from the southwest, the speed limit falls to 55-50, and 2MT begin again, past Intermediate Signals at MP 433.x and a dirt road grade crossing. At Havre West (MP 431.9)  where the single yard lead for the west end of the yard begins, there are crossovers between the two main tracks and extra track on the south side, and the line turns southeast and then east again, with the freight yard, first four tracks and then six, on the north side throughout the station area. At the west end of the Havre depot (MP 430.4), where the speed limit is 20 mph,  is former GN 2584, a stuffed-and-mounted 4-8-4, on the south side of the tracks, and the depot is on the south side of the tracks. East of the depot, the line passes an on-line fuel rack, there is a rack for receiving fuel tank cars, rail-served grain elevators, locomotive depot and repair facilities on the south side of the tracks, and freight sheds (and freight car repair facilities) on the south side of the tracks.

There are shuttle-enabled rail-served grain facilities on the north side of the tracks, as well as rail-served grain elevators on the south side of the tracks, east of the station, with one of them served by a secondhand GP. There are crossovers and a 9,351 ft. siding (extending west, on the north side of the line, past the depot) at Havre Center (MP 429.3), where the speed limit is 55-50. The 2MT reduce to single track, again, at Havre East (MP 427.4), where the speed limit rises to 79-60, and the line continues east, along the south side of the curving Milk River, past two dirt road grade crossings, Intermediate Signals, Toledo, a dirt track grade crossing, and a bridge over a side stream, jogging northeast to follow the river (which curves back and forth) and east past a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, Yantic, a dirt road grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, the 10,003 ft. south side siding at Lohman (MP 416.8), with a dirt road grade crossing, a dirt road alongside to the north, US 2 alongside t the south, MP 417, and the dirt road turning and crossing at grade, all within the siding, a bridge over a stream, a dirt road grade crossing, and a deck girder bridge over the Milk River (which continues along the south side of the line).

The line continues east past a dirt road grade crossing, a dirt road alongside to the north, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, Adams, a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, extra track serving two elevators on the south side, an old wooden depot on the south side, the 7,390 ft. south side siding at Chinook (MP 408.8), with a bridge over a stream, a dirt road grade crossing, and two dirt track grade crossings within the siding, two dirt road grade crossings,  Intermediate Signals and a detector at MP 404.0, North Fork, a bridge over a stream, two dirt road grade crossings, the 10,217 ft. south side siding at Zurich (MP 399.6), with a grade crossing and a bridge over a stream within the siding, a dirt road grade crossing, two dirt track grade crossings, two dirt road grade crossings, a dirt track grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, two dirt track grade crossings, a bridge over drainage, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at Fort Belknap, and two grade crossings in town.

The line curves east-southeast at the west end of the 7,564 ft. south side siding and shuttle-enabled rail-served grain elevators on the south side at Harlem (MP 387.7), and passes two dirt road grade crossings, a bridge over a stream, a dirt road grade crossing, a detector at MP 383.5, three dirt road grade crossings, Matador, and the 8,526 ft. south side siding at Savoy (MP 375.9), with MP 375 within the siding. The line curves east past Coburg (MP 370.9) and Survant, southeast past Intermediate Signals at Haro, a dirt road grade crossing, and a detector at MP 364.0, south-southeast past a dirt track grade crossing, a bridge over irrigation, three dirt road grade crossings, a dirt track grade crossing, the 7,417 ft. south side siding at Dodson (MP 360.7), two dirt road grade crossings, a new (in 2008) road bridge overhead and an old road bridge overhead carrying US 2 at MP 358.2, a dirt road grade crossing, a dirt road alongside to the north, and the 10,756 ft. south side siding at Wagner (MP 352.8), with a dirt track grade crossing and a dirt road grade crossing within the siding, two dirt road grade crossings, a bridge over irrigation, a bridge over a dirt track, and a dirt road alongside to the north, and east past  Intermediate Signals at Exeter, a dirt road grade crossing, a detector at MP 347.0, US 2 almost alongside to the north, and two dirt road grade crossings, and across a dirt road on the west bank and the Milk River on a through truss bridge to the 8,520 ft. south side siding at Malta (MP 343.3), where there is a bridge over a street and a passenger station with a wooden depot on the north side of the line, extra track on the north side, and a grade crossing, all within the siding.

There are grain elevators on the south side of the track at Malta Stock Yard (MP 341.3), accessed from additional tracks on the north side, and  the line curves gently north of east, with a road alongside to the north, past a detector at MP 339.3, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, Strater, a dirt road alongside to the north (after the paved road turns away), the dirt road curving to cross at grade, two dirt track grade crossings, a bridge over a 'river', the 8,106 ft. north side siding at Bowdoin (MP 330.6), with extra track on the north side, and a bridge over a stream within the siding, a bridge over a stream, a bridge over a river, a dirt track grade crossing, a dirt road to the north, and another dirt road to the north, and then northeast past Intermediate Signals, Ashfield and a detector at MP 322.8

The line makes a long curve to the south-southeast, with US 2 beyond a field to the north, past Intermediate Signals, Saco Junction, where a branch from Hogeland once trailed in from the northwest and US 2 comes alongside to the north, a dirt road grade crossing, the 10,107 ft. north side siding at Saco (MP 316.2), with extra track for elevators on the south side, a dirt track grade crossing and a through truss bridge over a river within the siding, US 2 turning away, a detector at MP 314.6, two through girder bridges over irrigation, a dirt road grade crossing, a through truss bridge over a river, a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over drainage, a dirt road to the north, Intermediate Signals, Beaverton, two dirt road grade crossings, a dirt track grade crossing, a detector at MP 307.0, and US 2 alongside to the north.

There is a 13,259 ft. south side siding at Hinsdale (MP 303.5), with elevators on the south side, a dirt track grade crossing, a bridge over a culvert, a dirt road grade crossing in Hinsdale, and US 2 turning away, all within the siding, a dirt track grade crossing at the east end of the siding, where the Milk River comes along the north side again, with a weir, Intermediate Signals, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals adjacent to a weir on the river, an irrigation canal to the north, a bridge over irrigation, and a dirt road to the north, curving southeast past Vandalia (MP 294.8), with extra track to the south, a detector at MP 292.9, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, the 8,321 ft. south side siding at Tampico (MP 289.4), with extra track on the south side, an irrigation canal to the north, a bridge over the canal, a dirt road grade crossing, and a road alongside to the north, all within the siding

The line continues southeast, past a dirt track grade crossing, a bridge over irrigation, a bridge over a dirt track, a grade crossing, a bridge over irrigation, a bridge over a dirt track, Intermediate Signals, an angled dirt road grade crossing, Paisley, a detector at MP 282.8, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing with the road that had been to the north, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, and a bridge over a dirt road, and then a through girder bridge crossing the Milk River, past a dirt track grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing for a driveway to a farm to the north, a bridge over a dirt track, and a bridge over a dirt road, into Glasgow (MP 277.5), where the speed limit is 55-50, there is a 6,800 ft. siding on the south side of the line, where the passenger station is located, and an 11,700 ft. siding on the north side of the line, both starting at the same location at the west end, formerly rail-served elevators on the south side, two extra tracks on the north side to grain silos, a street alongside to the south, a bridge over SR 42, the depot on the south side, a grade crossing in town, extra track on the south side, a grain elevator on the north side, and three extra tracks serving grain elevators trailing in, all within the space of the north siding which ends at ~MP 276.

The speed limit rises to 79-60 again, past a grade crossing, and the line turns south-southeast alongside the Milk River (to the south of the line), and then east, still along the river, past a bridge over a dirt road, Intermediate Signals, Whately, a road alongside to the north, a dirt track grade crossing, two dirt road grade crossings, Intermediate Signals, a detector at MP 269.0, a dirt track grade crossing, a bridge over a culvert and Intermediate Signals at MP 267.5, jogs southeast, past a dirt track grade crossing, MP 265, and a dirt track grade crossing, and then east past the 9,431 ft.  south side siding at Nashua (MP 263.2), with two rail-served elevators on the south side, a dirt road alongside to the north, and a grade crossing, within the siding, a bridge over drainage, and a dirt track grade crossing, and turns southeast past a road alongside to the north, a bridge over a culvert, and a dirt road grade crossing.

The Milk River turns away south at Wiola, to join the Missouri River just below that river's Fort Peck Dam, and the line turns east past two bridges over drainage, a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, the 8,495 ft. south side siding at Kintyre (MP 251.8), now in the broad valley of the Missouri River, past a road alongside to the north, a bridge over drainage, herds of cattle, a detector at MP 248.0, a bridge over a dry river, a grade crossing, and extra track for elevators on the south side at Frazer (MP 246.7), and edging just north of east past a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, the 8,422 ft. south side siding at Oswego (MP 239.2), with a grade crossing in the siding, a detector at Lohmiller (MP 234.2), a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, and a bridge over drainage, to the 14,025 ft. south side siding at Wolf Point (MP 227.3), with a street alongside to the south,  road alongside to the north, extra track on the north and south sides, an Amtrak station with platform and steel-framed depot on the south side, a bridge over a street, extra track on the north side serving two sets of shuttle-enabled grain elevators, and extra track on the south side serving three silos, all within the siding, a grade crossing, and a loop of track to shuttle-enabled grain silos on the north side.

The line continues past the 8,424 ft. south side siding at Macon (MP 222.1), with extra track and silos on the south side, a detector at MP 218.7, a large agricultural facility on the north side, a bridge over drainage, and a road alongside to the north, turns east-southeast at Intermediate Signals at Chelsea, past two bridges over drainage, a dirt road alongside to the south, a grade crossing, a road alongside to the south, and a through girder bridge over a river, east at the 8,422 ft. south side siding at Poplar (MP 206.8), with extra track on hte south side, formerly rail-served silos on the north side and a grade crossing within the siding, past a bridge over a dirt track, a detector at MP 202.5, US 2 alongside to the north, a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a dirt road, Sprole (MP 200.2), a bridge over drainage, a grade crossing, and a bridge over a dirt track, and east-northeast past the 12,990 ft. south side siding at Brockton (MP 192.8), with extra track to silos on the south side and a dirt road grade crossing within the siding, where the Missouri River is very close on the south side.

There is a road alongside to the north, a dirt road grade crossing, and bluffs north of the road, and the line turns southeast, with the road climbing the bluffs, past a bridge over a dirt track, the road alongside to the north again, Intermediate Signals, and Calais, east past two bridges over culverts, a detector at MP 184.7, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing, a bridge over a dirt road, and the 8,430 ft. south side siding at Blair (MP 179.1), with two dirt road grade crossing within the siding, where the Missouri is again very close on the south side, a bridge over a side river, a dirt track grade crossing, and bluffs to the north, southeast and then just north of east past Intermediate Signals, a bridge over a dirt track, a dirt track grade crossing, the 8,437 ft. south side siding at Culbertson (MP 173.5), with extra track to silos on the south side, a spur on the north side to 52-car-capable grain elevators, a road bridge overhead, a spur from grain elevators on the north side trailing in, and formerly rail-served grain elevators on the north side, all within the siding, a road alongside to the north, two dirt track grade crossings, and a bridge over a dry river.

The line turns just south of east past a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge overhead, Intermediate Signals at ~MP 170.x, and Lanark, just north of east past two dirt track grade crossings, Intermediate Signals and a detector at MP 167.1, a dirt track grade crossing and two bridges over drainage, southeast, past Intermediate Signals, a dirt track grade crossing, where a short line from Scobey trails in from the north-northwest, a dirt road grade crossing, MP160, and the 8,552 ft. north side siding at Bainville (MP 159.2), with signals for the spur trailing in on the north side, a grade crossing at Clinton Street, MP 159.24, and a metal "depot" on the south side, all within the siding, a bridge over a culvert and two bridges over irrigation, southwest, past a dirt road grade crossing in town and a bridge over a stream, and southeast alongside the Missouri, past two dirt road grade crossings, a dirt road alongside to the north, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 152, a dirt road below bluffs to the north, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 150, Intermediate Signals at Lakeside, a dirt track grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, and two bridges over culverts, to the 12,267 ft. north side siding at Snowden (MP 147.2), where a Short Line to Glendive (on the former NP main line) departs to the south-southwest.
