Savanna to Galesburg

From the crossover and yard at Savanna (MP 143.7), where Two Main Tracks, CTC, replaces the DT, TWC, ABS, a turn to the south-southeast and the junction between the Aurora line heading south-southeast and the Galesburg line heading south-southwest at Plum River (MP 142.3/96.7), single track, CTC, speed limit 60 mph but local restriction to 35 mph as far as MP 96.3, past Ayres, where it turns south along the east bank of the Mississippi River, with the former right-of-way of an erstwhile Milwaukee Road line between the former CB&Q and the river, past Timbuctoo, where the line is a short distance away from the river, additional track at Thomson (MP 88.6), where the line is back on the riverbank, the 10.995 ft. siding at Ebner (MP 86.6), where there was once a crossing with an erstwhile Milwaukee Road line and the line turns just west of due south.

The line turns south-southeast, away from the river, past a bridge over the former Chicago & Northwestern main line between Chicago and Omaha, turning just east of due south past Sollars, Sam (MP 77.0), Lass, where a branch from Cliton once trailed in and the line turns south-southeast again, the 9,912 ft. siding at Fenton (MP 71.7), and the junction with the 3.1 mile spur to Lyndon trailing in from the northeast at Denrock (MP 68.3), where there is a 25 mph speed restriction as the line turns west-southwest to follow the valley of the Rock River, past a detector at MP 64.7, Erie (MP 62.1), where there is a 40 mph speed restriction, and the 9,470 ft. siding at Hillsdale (MP 56.4), turning southwest past additional track at Joslin (MP 51.7), a 25 mph speed restriction between MP 48.45 and MP 47.8 as the line turns west past Osborn to the 4,932 ft. siding and wye junction with the 11.0 mile line west to Terminal Junction, Rock Island, at Barstow (MP 43.8), where there is a 25 mph speed restriction as the Galesburg line turns south.

There is a 30 mph speed restriction on the next segment of line, as the line bridges over the Rock River, turning southwest and then south-southwest past Cleveland, just east of due south and then just south of due east, turning just east of due south again at the flat crossing and southeast quadrant connector with the former Rock Island at Colona (MP 40.8), where there is a 25 mph speed restriction, just west of due south past a high-wide detector at MP 40.1, southwest past Briar Bluff (MP 39.4), where the speed limit has risen to 30 mph, south-southeast, just west of due south, and curvily south past the 9,791 ft. siding at Warner (MP 34.8), where the speed limit has risen to 40 mph, and the former flat crossing with an erstwhile Rock Island line at Orion (MP 30.5), where the speed limit has risen to 50 mph.

The line turns south-southeast past a detector at MP 29.6, south again past Lynn (MP 26.3), just west of due south past Ophiem (MP 23.0), south past the 8,561 ft. siding at Alpha (MP 18.6), where an erstwhile CB&Q line once crossed, south-southwest past Rio (MP 13.0), where there is a 25 mph speed restriction on the turn to the south-southeast, where a branch once headed west-southwest, and south past Henderson (MP 6.3), the 11,000 ft. siding at Bouhan (MP 3.4), and a 35 mph speed restriction starting at MP 1.5, to MP 161.7 (on the Chicago line), where the main line from Chicago headed south-southwest bridges over the former Santa Fe line headed east-west, and the line south from Savanna comes alongside from the north, past a bridge over a street, an extra track on the north side (and space for a (perhaps former) extra track on the south side), and a signal bridge at B Plant East (MP 162.1 on the Chicago line), for the crossovers where the Savanna line trails into the north side of main headed into Galesburg (MP 1.0 on the Savanna line).
