Cumberland Yard

B&O opened Cumberland yard in 1960, as a westbound automated hump yard with eight reception tracks and 30 classification tracks, five of which are more than 100 cars long and used as departure tracks. Eastbound trains are handled in long loops, for through trains requiring inspection, and 27 through and flat-switched tracks where the erstwhile eastbound hump yard once was. In 1999, the westbound yard was classifying 1400 cars per day.

The yard is on the south/west side of the former B&O main line, east of Cumberland.
