Chestnut Street to Hoffman Avenue

From the crossovers at Chestnut Street (MP 411.2), with a tall retaining wall to the north, diminishing as the line heads east, and a street alongside to the south, the line continues north-northeastward, along the east bank of the Mississippi River, with 2MT, CTC, speed limit 30-25, past two grade crossings, two road bridges overhead (and over the river), Robert Street (MP 411.2), where the UP (ex-C&NW) State Street Spur trails in from the south (across the river), a bridge over a street, extra track on the north side, the former location of St. Paul Union Depot (SPUD), where the headhouse on the north side still stands, and the west leg of a wye turning away to the north to 7th Street on the BNSF, and the main line then curving to the south-southeast, still along the river bank, as the two BNSF tracks trail in on the east leg of the wye, coming alongside to the north, past Division Street at the east end of the east leg, but not at the junction, bluffs on the northeast side of the line, and a signal bridge over the four tracks, to the junction at Hoffman Avenue (MP 408.9), where the four CP and BNSF tracks form a joint track to continue southeastward.
