Star to Aberdeen

There are sidings at Star (MP 23.6), the current end-of-track on the former line north towards Asheboro. The extant line heads south, with a main road (the former US 220) alongside to the east, past a grade crossing at West College Street, a spur on the east side descending to connect to a line passing below, a bridge above that east-west line, the A,C&W line between Gulf and North Charlotte, grade crossings at Hotel Road, Harper Street, Okeewee-Star Road, and Stewart Street, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, a grade crossing into a lumber yard on the west side, three dirt track grade crossings, a grade crossing into a construction company on the west side, two more grade crossings, and a grade crossing at State Routes 24 & 27, all the while curving back and forth, but still heading south.

The line passes Biscoe, with grade crossings at Maple Street and Green Street, then two more grade crossings with a street alongside to the west as well as the main road to the east, and a grade crossing at Cedar City Drive, and curves to just east of due south, with curves back and forth, passing a grade crossing into East Montgomery High School (on the west side), a grade crossings at North Avenue, a grade crossing into East Middle School, also on the west side, a dirt track grade crossing with woods to the west and the highway still to the east, a grade crossing, a grade crossing into ATC Panels, two dirt track grade crossings, a dirt road grade crossing and two grade crossings.

A line to Ellerbe once continued south and the line to Aberdeen turns east-northeast, past three grade crossings, a grade crossing at Debra Street, the old depot at Candor (MP 31.6), a grade crossings into a builder's supply facility, with a highway alongside to the north, a grade crossings, dual highway bridges overhead carrying US 220, a grade crossing, the highway alongside to the north is now State Route 211, a turn east, a dirt track grade crossing, a grade crossing at Morris Farm Road, a turn east-northeast, a spur on the south side at Samarcand, trailing in from a feed storage facility, a siding on the north side, next to Cinder Line Products, a feed mill with silos on the south side, with west facing and east facing tracks (two of them), served by CSX as well as AC&W, and a grade crossing at the east end of the feed mill tracks.

The line turns east-southeast, curvily, with woods to the south and the highway still to the north, past two grade crossings, four dirt track grade crossings, Eagle Springs (MP 37.3), a grade crossings, four dirt track grade crossings, two grade crossings, a turn southeast, a dirt road grade crossings, a dirt road grade crossing at Curry Street in Elberta, a dirt road grade crossing, a turn east-southeast, away from the highway on the north side, a grade crossing, piney woods on both sides, a turn south-southeast, with the highway back again, a grade crossing, a spur curving away on the west side into a wood products storage yard, a dirt track grade crossing into that facility, a dirt track grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing at pine Ridge Road, a turn to the south, two dirt track grade crossings, MP 43, and two grade crossings.

At West End (MP 43.8), where a spur once headed west-southwest to Jackson Springs, the line turns east, past a grade crossing, a grade crossing at Ridge Road, a turn southeast, a grade crossing, MP 45, a dirt track grade crossing with no highway alongside to the north and the line in piney woods, a dirt road grade crossing, a turn to the east, two grade crossings, a golf course on the south side, a dirt road grade crossing, golf course on the north side as well, two grade crossings, a dirt track grade crossing, three grade crossings, MP 50, a grade crossing, a sign saying "End West End Block; begin Watts Block", two grade crossings, an an embankment with a bridge over the highway.

There are extra tracks on the north side at Pinehurst (MP 50.6), a pedestrian crossing between golf courses on both sides, SR 211 is now alongside to the south, a pedestrian crossing, a grade crossing, where a line from Carthage once trailed in from the north, a line once continued east to Southern Pines, and the line turns just west of due south, a grade crossing into Pinehurst Harness Track on the east side, a grade crossing, MP 52, a turn east-southeast, three grade crossings, a dirt track grade crossing, more piney woods, MP 54, Talbird, where the Watts Bock ends and Yard Limits begin, a turn south, a grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, a grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, MP 55, a grade crossing, two dirt track grade crossings, a grade crossing, a spur trailing in on the west side, two grade crossings, a spur heading away to the south, MP 56, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing of a wide street in town, a grade crossing at Poplar Street, and the west apex of the wye on west side of northeast-southwest CSX 'S' Line at Aberdeen (MP 56.6), with a grade crossing in each leg of the wye and the former depot between the cross-track of wye and the parallel CSX line. The Aberdeen & Rockfish depot and tracks are on the east side of the CSX tracks (single main track plus siding).
