Chetwynd to Fort Nelson

From Chetwynd (MP 658.5), a small town with a yard,  a BCRail office, and a wye on the east side of the line with the line east to Dawson Creek, the main line heads northeast, single track, OCS, with overall speed limit 55 mph for passenger trains and 40 mph for freights, past the end of the yard at MP 660.3, the end of Yard Limits at MP 662.3, Demean (MP 666.5), a freight speed restriction of 30 mph between MP 666.7 and MP 667.4, the 1,500 ft. siding at Bond (MP 670.5), where the line is heading north-northeast, a detector at MP 677.0, Windy (MP 678.6), a turn just west of due north, and then a turn east-northeast past Monias (MP 689.0), the 1,640 ft. siding at Worth (MP 697.0), the 5,200 ft. siding at Septimus (MP 704.8), where there are Yard Limits between MP 703.0 and MP 706.0, MP 706.8, where the freight speed limit drops to 25 mph, and a detector at MP 707.4 where the line turns curvily east-southeast, descending on the north side of the Pine River, with a freight speed restriction of 20 mph on the road crossing at MP 710.5, turning south and then east at a detector at MP 712.0, turning north at Teko (MP 713.3), dropping down to and across the Peace River, then turn east-southeast and climb out of the valley on the other side.

The line turns east-northeast on the bluffs above the Peace River to the yard at Taylor (MP 716.9), where there is a rail-served petrochemical plant and a rail-served FibreCo plant across the Alaska Highway, and makes a counter-clockwise horseshoe back to the west, turning north at a detector at MP 718.9, northeast past a detector at MP 720.0, north to Baldonnel (MP 722.1), and northwest past MP 726.3, where the freight speed limit drops to 20 mph, the start of Yard Limits at MP 726.4, the start of the yard at MP 727.2, Fort St. John (MP 728.0), the end of the yard at MP 728.0, where the freight speed limit rises to 30 mph, a freight speed restriction of 15 mph on the road crossing at MP 728.2, where the freight speed limit then rises to 40 mph, the end of Yard Limits at MP 729.6, a turn just south of due west, and a horseshoe back to the northeast, and then north.

There is a freight speed restriction of 35 mph between MP 735.3 and MP 737.4, a detector at MP 736.5, a turn just west of due north, the 4,750 ft. siding at Murdale (MP 743.1), a detector at MP 753.1, a turn curvily west-northwest, a turn back just west of due north, a turn east-northeast on the south side of the Blueberry River, the 2,200 ft. siding at Blue Hills (MP 767.5), MP 769.0, where the freight speed limit drops to 30 mph, a freight speed restriction of 20 mph over the Blueberry River bridge at MP 771.0, a turn north-northwest, a passenger speed restriction of 40 mph between MP 772.6 and MP 776.5, the 3,750 ft. siding at Buick (MP 776.2), MP 776.5, where the freight speed limit rises to 40 mph, Snyder (MP 791.2), the 4,970 ft. siding at Zeke (MP 798.1), where the line turns north, a freight speed restriction of 30 mph between MP 804.1 and MP 805.9, a detector at MP 804.5, and Nig (MP 806.4).

The line turns north-northeast to bridge across the Beatton River, and passes the 5,400 ft. siding at Beatton (MP 815.9) and MP 816.4, where the freight speed limit drops to 30 mph, curving ever so slowly back to the north past MP 823.5, where the freight speed limit reverts to 40 mph, a freight speed restriction of 30 mph over the bridge at MP 832.4, a passenger speed restriction of 45 mph and freight speed restriction of 35 mph between MP 832.4 and MP 837.4, the 3,000 ft. siding at Silver Lake (MP 838.2), a summit (elevation 2,779 ft.) just north of the latter, Gleam, a turn northeast and then back north again, the 1,750 ft. siding at Tamarack (MP 852.9), and the 2,725 ft. siding at Gutah (MP 864.3), a turn curvily north-northwest, a freight speed restriction of 35 mph between MP 870.3 and MP 871.9, a detector at MP 871.0, a freight speed restriction of 30 mph over the bridge at MP 874.5, and the 5,000 ft. siding at Sikanni (MP 876.5).

The line turns just north of due west, and then curvily north-northwest along the east side of the Sikanni Chief River (flowing north), past the 4,600 ft. siding at Niteal (MP 897.2), a freight speed restriction of 30 mph between MP 900.4 and MP 902.2 as the line turns northeast and then makes a sharp curve back to the north-northwest, then turns west and then north-northeast to the 5,280 ft. siding at Needley (MP 910.6), where it makes a counter-clockwise horseshoe to the west along the south side of the Fontas River, past MP 911.5, where the freight speed limit drops to 30 mph, a detector at MP 914.3, a turn northwest, a bridge over the Fontas River just upstream of the latter's confluence with the Sikanni Chief River to form the Fort Nelson River, the 1,800 ft. siding at Fontas (MP 917.9), a turn west, MP 921.0, where the freight speed limit rises to 35 mph, a turn northwest and a turn curvily just west of due north, following the east side of the Fort Nelson River (at some remove)

There is a 3,450 ft. siding at Ekwan (MP 931.2), MP 935.0, where the freight speed limit rises to 40 mph, a freight speed restriction of 30 mph between MP 938.1 and MP 943.0 as the line turns northeast, north past a detector at MP 941.0, and just north of due west past the 3,000 ft. siding at Elleh (MP 942.6), still generally following the river, a freight speed restriction of 35 mph between MP 953.9 and MP 957.0 as the line turns just west of due north, the 3,250 ft. siding at Klua (MP 960.8), a turn curvily northwest, MP 966.7, where the freight speed limit drops to 30 mph, a turn northeast, the Fort Nelson River Bridge (MP 973.4), where a by-road and the railroad both cross the river on a single-lane through-truss bridge, a counter-clockwise horseshoe back to the southwest on the north side of the river, and a clockwise turn north to the start of Yard Limits at MP 977.5 and the yard at Fort Nelson (MP 978.8).
