Corbin to Knoxville

From the terminal complex at Corbin (MP 172.0), where the CV subdivision turns away east, the KD subdivision continues south, Two Main Tracks, Yard Limits, maximum speed 50 mph (but local restriction to 20 mph), with the yards and the Arch of Kentucky Coal facility on the east side, to the end of the yard, signal bridges and crossovers at Bacon Creek (MP 174.8), curving west-southwest past the end of Yard Limits and start of CTC at MP 175.1, where the maximum speed rises to 60 mph for intermodal trains and 50 mph for other freight trains, a grade crossing at Archer Street, the 23-car south-facing spur at Woodbine (MP 175.2), where a branch once headed east-southeast, and Intermediate Signals at MP 176.x, to the start of single track at Faber (MP 178.0), south-southeast and then south past a speed restriction to 45 mph from MP 178.2 to MP 181.9, a speed restriction to 35 mph from MP 181.9 and MP 184.0, signals at MP 182.2, the 30-car north-facing spur at Rockhold (MP 182.3), and a 45 mph speed restriction from MP 184.0 to MP 187.6.

 There is a 6,113 ft. east side siding at Wofford (MP 185.9), where there is a 6-car south-facing spur (MP 185.7), and the line turns southwest and then south again past a 35 mph speed restriction from MP 187.6 to MP 191.1, where full line speeds prevail, Williamsburg, with old depot on the east side of the line, where there are road bridges overhead, a yard (MP 191.2) and 4,642 ft. east side siding at Savoy (MP 191.8), where the Pine Mountain West branch trails in from the northeast, a speed restriction to 45 mph from MP 192.6 to MP 193.5, a speed restriction to 40 mph from MP 193.5 to MP 193.9, a speed restriction to 45 mph from MP 193.9 to MP 197.8, an on-line coaling tower, a detector at Pleasant View (MP 194.3), a speed restriction to 40 mph from MP 197.8 to MP 200.3, a 16-car north-facing spur (MP 198.5) and a 5,540 ft. west side siding at Saxton (MP 199.3), where a Southern Railway branch once crossed at grade, turning east, with a slide fence on the east side of the track, powered by a solar collector, and then south again, past a speed restriction to 35 mph from MP 200.3 to MP 202.8, to Lot (MP 201.5), where the present-day NS version of that line, to Jellico, trails in on the west side.

The CSX line continues south-southeast, across the Kentucky-Tennessee state line, past a speed restriction to 30 mph from MP 202.8 to MP 203.8, the 30-car north-facing spur at Highcliff (MP 203.0), where an L&N line between Pineville and Jellico once crossed at grade, and turns east, up the 3% grade to Duff Mountain, past a speed restriction to 25 mph from MP 203.8 to MP 217.7 (all the way to Duff), and Holton (MP 206.0), south past Arco Junction, where the Clear Fork Branch heads east and Hyde, southwest along Hickory Creek and through Hickory #1 Tunnel to Morley (MP 207.0), where there is road bridge over the track and a bridge over Hickory Creek, a siding on the east side, and the White Oak Branch once headed south, curvily west through Hickory #2 and Hickory #3 Tunnels, with bridges over Hickory Creek between and around them, and then curvily southwest past Westbourne #2, and south to the top of the grade at Chaska.

There is an old on-line coaling tower at the helper base at the resumption of Two Main Tracks at Chaska (MP 210.1), and the line continues south downgrade on the double track Chaska helper district through the Narrows past a 4-car north-facing spur (MP 210.7) Oaks (MP 212.0), and south-southeast past the south end of double track at Habersham (MP 213.1), where there is a 4-car north-facing spur and a branch once headed east, curvily south and then south-southwest over the Davis Creek Trestle, past Duff (MP 217.6), where the grade reduces to 1% heading southward, a speed restriction to 30 mph (up from 25 mph) from MP 217.7 to MP 227.5, a 45-car dual-ended spur (MP 218.0), the 9,123 ft. west side siding at Kilsyth (MP 219.9), where there is a spur on the west side and the Crooked Fork Branch once trailed in from the north (i.e on the west side), the deck girder Big Creek bridge, and Ivydell, south past Intermediate Signals at MP 224.2, to LaFollette (MP 226.7), where there is a detector.

The line turns southwest past a speed restriction to 45 mph (up from 30 mph) from MP 227.5 to MP 228.1, after which full line speeds prevail, briefly, a 7-car dual-ended spur (MP 228.7), the Tone Strings Road concrete bridge over the tracks, the 4,958 ft. west side siding at Jacksboro (MP 229.2) and Cove Lake, and south, past a restriction to 45 mph from MP 230.3 to MP 231.6, a speed restriction to 35 mph from MP 231.6 to MP 237.3, the Cover Creek high bridge, two tunnels (one of which passes under the NS Jellico line) and Vasper, turning south-southeast to a 13-car north-facing spur at Lake City (MP 237.6), where full line speeds prevail and there is a crossing with the NS Briceville branch, south, south-southwest past a 5-car dual-ended spur (MP 243.9), the 5,047 ft. west side siding at Granite (MP 244.2), and a detector at "Leinarts" (MP 246.3), and south, bridging over the NS Clinton to Emory Gap line, with a speed restriction to 30 mph from MP 249.3 to MP 250.3.

After passing Dossett (MP 250.0), where a branch from Oliver trails in from the southwest, the line turns southeast, through a tunnel with a speed restriction to 25 mph from MP 250.3 to MP 251.0, a speed restriction to 40 mph from MP 251.0 to MP 251.9, and a speed restriction to 45 mph from MP 251.9 to MP 255.5, to the resumption of Two Main Tracks at Clinch River (MP 252.0), where a branch from the USG Oak Ridge Plant trails in from the southwest and the line turns east-southeast and then south-southeast, following the east bank of the Clinch River, past the start of single track at Edgemoor (MP 254.9), and a lead at MP 255.0 for the Bull Run Power Plant on the east side, turning southwest past a speed restriction to 40 mph from MP 255.5 to MP 257.6 and Bull Run (MP 255.7), and west, still following the river.

The line makes a counter-clockwise horseshoe curve to the east-southeast, with a speed restriction to 35 mph from MP 257.6 to MP 258.6 and a detector at "Solway" (MP 258.1), passing through a tunnel with a speed restriction to 30 mph from MP 258.6 to MP 258.9, to climb out of the Clinch River valley, and then turning south-southeast with a speed restriction to 35 mph from MP 258.9 to MP 261.3, and east-northeast, with a speed restriction to 45 mph from MP 261.3 to MP 266.6, east past a 61-car dual-ended spur at Byington (MP 263.9), southeast, east-northeast and east, past a detector at MP 265.5 and Meadowbrook, and east-northeast, east, south, and east again, with a speed restriction to 40 mph from MP 266.6 to MP 268.6, to the 8,852 ft, west (south) side siding at Amherst (MP 268.5).

There is a jog southeast, with a speed restriction to 35 mph from MP 268.6 to MP 268.7, and the line heads curvily east, with a speed restriction to 30 mph from MP 268.7 to MP 273.8, through Knoxville, past the lead to Middlebrook Industrial Park (MP 269.8), which is a spur trailing in from the south, a turn northeast, east, northeast, south-southeast, past a 43-car dual-ended spur at Croydon (MP 272.2),east-northeast, past the start of Yard Limits and a 20 mph speed restriction at MP273.8, east across a bridge over a north-south NS line, south-southeast where the spur from Third Creek trails in from the north (on the east side), past a flat crossing at Willoughby with the NS line between Knoxville and Chattanooga, with connector in the west, north, and east quadrants, and a connector on the west side trailing in from the NS line previously bridged, to the yard on the west side at West Knoxville (MP 275.8), where the line turns east-northeast within the yard.
